Recently, the 1st National Conference on Intelligent Aquaculture was held in Jintan district, Changzhou. At Jintan Intelligent Fishery, the venue of the conference, a grand show was on for over a hundred aquaculture equipment with different functions, attracting the participants across the country.
Located in Dongpu village, Zhiqian town, the Jintan Intelligent Fishery is one of the three major modern agricultural programs of Jiangsu province for the year 2020. Covering a planned area of about 433 hectares, it has a total investment of 500 million yuan. At present, the phase-one project with an area of 73 hectares has been put into operation, which is now a national-level high-quality river crab breeding base and a national crab export demonstration base.
“Here used to be a low-lying area. 80% of the project is renovation on old fish ponds, costing 600,000 yuan per hectare, which is the highest among similar projects in China,” said Zhang Jinbiao, deputy chief of Zhiqian town. He introduced that there is the fish breeding area in the east and the area for mature crabs in the west, covering a total length of 2.4 kilometers. As for crab ponds, the total area is 46 hectares (1 - 1.3 hectares per pond), he said, adding that the net profit has exceeded 15,000 yuan per hectare since the harvest of crabs started in September.
“Starting from March, our fishery has been using drones to feed the crabs,”said Zhou Wei, vice general manager of Changdang Lake Agricultural Technology Industrial Park Co., Ltd., who is responsible for the phase-one project. Intelligent devices like underwater cameras, multifunctional aquatic weed harvesters and unmanned harvesting vessels have been applied in hot days, he said, commenting that comparing to traditional crab breeding, the new fishery can save at least two thirds of labor costs.
During the conference, approximately 40 exhibitors displayed more than 100 aquaculture equipment, showing how they are engaged in the whole process of aquatic breeding, including water aeration, water quality monitoring, aquatic weed prevention and control, harvesting, screening, transportation, packaging, tail water treatment, intelligent management, etc.
