On March 11th, China's first batch of "power electric" new energy buses with solar energy as the auxiliary energy were delivered in Changzhou. These 25 new energy buses are powered by gas and electricity. Compared with ordinary new energy vehicles, the biggest difference is the solar panels installed on the top of bus, which allows the bus to get charged by using solar energy.
In recent years, China has been promoting the development of new energy vehicles. Electric buses have been applied widely, but they have the shortage of insufficient driving range. The "power electric" new energy bus jointly developed by Changzhou Public Transportation Co., Ltd. and bus manufacturer will make up for this shortcoming.
Each bus can reduce the battery power consumption of 10 - 20 KWh per day by means of solar-assisted charging, thus increasing the driving range by 10% -20% to a total of 200 - 300 kilometers every day.
This batch of new energy buses will be used on the city's BRT extension lines.
Currently, Changzhou’s BRT lines have transported about 30 million passengers per day, nearly one-third of the total number of bus travelers.
