On the afternoon of September 22nd, the 2015 China Changzhou International Forum on Science and Technology & Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation was grandly opened in the Longcheng Hall of the Administration Center. Mr. Yan Li, Secretary of Changzhou Municipal Committee of CPC, delivered the opening speech for the event.

Yan said that Changzhou is a great city in the Yangtze River Delta region, with a long history, a deep cultural root, beautiful landscapes and brilliant talents. It is also an advanced and vibrant manufacturing base in the region. In recent years, Changzhou has won lots of honors like National Civilized City, National Famous Historic and Cultural City, National Ecological City, Chinese Outstanding Tourism City and Top-10 Chinese City of Harmonious and Sustainable Development. Changzhou has also been selected as one of the “Top 10 Chinese Cities with Greatest Potentials” and Forbes’ “Chinese Best Business Cities”. In 2014, the city’s aggregate GDP grew by 10.1% to 490.2 billion RMB and its per-capita GDP rose to $17,000. Moreover, the gross output value of large-scale enterprises in Changzhou rose by 11.2% to 1.12 trillion RMB. And the city also received a total foreign investment of $3.12 billion and registered an aggregate import-export volume of $28.8 billion. Since the beginning of this year, the city has maintained a good economic growth momentum. Its innovation capability is growing and its economic restructuring is accelerating. As a result, the quality and cost efficiency of the city’s economic growth are on a steady rise. At the same time, we are pressing ahead with economic internationalization. We are making our enterprises, industries, industrial parks, talents and the whole city more internationalized. As a result, we are gradually building a diverse, comprehensive and high-quality opening-up mode.

He further stated that the international environment and development conditions have gone through tremendous changes. As the economic development of China has entered the “new normal,” Changzhou has also stepped into a key period of transformation and growth. Going forward, we will make full use of the combined positive impact of the economic belt of the Yangtze River, the regional integration of the Yangtze River Delta, the demonstration zones of independent innovation in South Jiangsu, the city-industry integration and other national or provincial strategies. We will also integrate into the progress of the “one belt and one road” plan and the free trade zone reform and innovation, so as to create new advantages of opening up and to gain new achievements in economic and social development.
