On the morning of July 12th, nine volunteers of the “Cycling for Health and a Better Environment 2014” arrived in Changzhou, and took a handful of soil and a bottle of water in Hongmei Park. Before their stop in Changzhou, they have rode through 30 cities in more than one month.

This event is co-sponsored by 10 state-level authorities including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the State Forestry Administration, etc. It was initiated on June 6th at the Great Hall of the People, and the cycling team composed of nine volunteers departed from the Tiananmen Square for a 6,800-kilometer-long journey passing through 13 provinces (or municipalities) and 108 cities, lasting 128 days. They will arrive at the destination of the National Forest Park of Guanyin Mountain in Dongguan on October 11th.

To learn about the current status of environmental protection in different cities, the cycling team will take a handful of soil and a bottle of water as sample in each city’s most typical and representative place. When the volunteers finally arrive at Guanyin Mountain, they will plant a Linden tree with the water and soil collected from 108 cities as a symbol of environmental protection.
