Recently, the technology of low- and medium-speed maglev train has achieved breakthrough in Changzhou. The State Key Laboratory of Traction Power of Southwest Jiaotong University and the Southwest Jiaotong University Changzhou Institute of Railtransport have been working together and independently developed the maglev train carriage with a maximum speed of 140 km per hour.
Southwest Jiaotong University Changzhou Institute of Railtransport is seated in Changzhou Science & Education Town. Currently, the core technology of maglev trains running in Shanghai, Zhuzhou, Beijing, and so on, is from Japan. However, the maglev train carriage developed in Changzhou owns independent intellectual property rights (IIPR). With a new design of motor and suspension structure, it has achieved significant improvement on the indicator of strength-to-weight ratio. A one-meter-long carriage can load 2.3 tons. Its maximum speed has broken the record of 110 km per hour kept by Japanese low- and medium-speed maglev train.
