Another achievement has been made in Changzhou’s “Key Project Advance Year”. In the morning of August 10th, a 5-billion-yuan project, Chehejia New Energy Car Manufacturing Base, was officially started in the Wujin National Hi-tech Industrial Zone. Local officials attended the ground-breaking ceremony.
Covering an area of 500,000 km2 and with a designed annual production capacity of 300,000 cars , the manufacturing base is even bigger than Tesla’s finished automobile factory in Fremont, California. Divided into two phases, the first-phase project is expected to be operational by end of 2017 with an annual production capacity of 200,000 units.
The investor of the project, Chehejia Group, is a company dedicated to smart new-energy travel solutions. Its R & D team now has around 150 engineers and designers, some of whom are from renowned car manufacturers.
It is learned that at the beginning, the Chehejia New Energy Car Manufacturing Base in Changzhou will produce small electric vehicles which can accommodate 1-2 persons and cater to their short-travel needs. The sports utility cars currently under research and development will also be manufactured in the base in the future.
In the ground-breaking ceremony, Mr. Han Jiuyun, First Deputy Mayor of Changzhou, pointed out that the automobile and parts industry was one of the 10 major industry clusters that Changzhou was actively developing and it was a pillar industry for Changzhou’s industrial development. Mr. Han also remarked that the Chehejia New Energy Car Manufacturing Base would further promote technology updates and development of the local automobile industry.
Since the beginning of this year, the Wujin District Government has been working hard to attract key projects for economic growth. The first half year’s total industrial investment in Wujin reached 30.6 billion RMB, up by 8.4% over the same period in 2015. And the new-energy-car industrial chain has been growing robustly with a bunch of key projects being carried out.
